Although Hearing Awareness Week was almost a month ago, the lessons we learnt are still at the forefront of our minds as we continue to focus on hearing protection.
Hearing Awareness Week was Sunday 21 – Saturday 27 August and its aim was to raise awareness of the fragility of hearing and what we need to do to protect ourselves and others from noise injuries.
According to Safe Work Australia, ‘occupational noise-induced hearing loss in Australia led to 16,500 successful workers compensation claims for industrial deafness involving permanent impairment due to noise.
One in six Australians at present suffer from hearing loss and this number is likely to increase to one in four by 2050.
Currently, one in six Australians suffers from hearing loss, with this number expected to increase to one in four by 2050.
