The legislation to reinstate the construction watchdog, The Australian Building and Construction Commission (ABCC) was passed in December and there have been reactions from the industry.
While employers and Master Builders Australia have welcomed the legislation, which they say will help restore the rule of law in the sector, some are fearful of what the legislation will mean for safety.
Master Builders and employers believe that the ABCC will mean builders and tradies will be able to work without the fear of being bullied.
The unions however have not been so welcoming of the legislation which it believes will remove workers’ rights and put the safety of workers at risk on building sites.
Regardless of your stance on the issue, builders need to be aware of the new rules and what they mean for you.
