Although workers tend to display complacency towards safety around ladders, an incident that happened in Western Sydney is an example of why we need to be more cautious when working with ladders.
A businessman was fined $60,000 after a worker died after falling from a ladder in June 2016. The worker was installing security cameras at the time and was employed as a casual worker.
During the fall, the 58 year old worker suffered a broken jaw, injured shoulder and hip and sustained severe head injuries. He died the next day in hospital.
The court heard that the company did not have the appropriate fall protection systems in place and fined the businessman for failing to ensure the health and safety of the worker.
