Women are a seriously under-represented demograpic in the construction industry, so an article on http://www.architectureanddesign.com.au/ really caught my attention.
The article discussed the efforts being made by construction giant, Hilti in attracting and retaining female workers in the construction industry.
Some of the issues identified and addressed which previously kept women out of the industry were – an absence of female role models, poor networking opportunities and a male dominated work culture.
Groups like The National Association for Women in Construction (NAWIC) and companies like Hilti are challenging old stereotypes in order to make construction a more attractive and legitimate option for female workers.
