I recently read about a study out of North America which highlighted the benefits of transparent wood over traditional glass.
The study claims transparent wood is a better way for windows that are more energy efficient. They apparently also provide softer, more uniform light than glass.
Researchers from Sweden’s Royal Institute of Technology announced their breakthrough with “optically transparent wood” which they say can be mass produced and serves as a good substitute for glass.
The researchers extracted the lignin from natural wood which gives it a white color. They then added a polymer which increased the material’s optical transparency.
Researchers from the University of Maryland then went on to prove that the transparent wood product is actually better than traditional glasses, providing more energy efficiency and other benefits. Source: https://sourceable.net/why-transparent-wood-surpasses-traditional-glass/
