In an effort to draw attention to safety, roading contractors around New Zealand recently downed tools for a few hours for “Pause for Health and Safety Day”.
The pause was prompted by 4 incidents that occurred this year involving road construction workers with the NZ Transport Agency staff and industry workers wanting to refocus on creating safer working environments and eliminating workplace accidents.
One of the issues highlighted that may be compromising construction worker safety is complacency. Even with the best policies in place, if those involved are complacent about safety, the risks are greater.
