Last year (2015) goes on record as the busiest year for new residential building activity.
According to data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), more than 22,000 dwellngs began construction over the year, this was 11 per cent more than the 198,000 of the previous year. It is also well above the decade average of 164,317 per year.
Despite the success of 2015, the year ended on a weaker note and new dwelling approvals have been on the decline since the fourth quarter of 2015.
Data also shows that apartment construction continues to outstrip houses.
