Western Australia has introduced tougher penalties for workplace health and safety offenders, which are more in line with the national Work Health and Safety Act.
Under new laws the maximum term of imprisonment has increased from 2 years to 5 years and fines for body corporate have also increased.
Level 1 penalties have been raised from $50,000 to $450,000 for first time offenders and raised from $62,500 to $570,000 for repeat offenders.
Level 4 offences now carry a maximum penalty of $2.7 million, raised from $500,000 for first offenders and now $3.5 million for repeat offenders from $625,000 previously.
