WorkSafe New Zealand has asked workers and employers to be proactive about noise control at workplaces.
In an article on SafetyCulture.com.au, WorkSafe spoke about a visit to an engineering firm taking a proactive approach to worker safety by setting up a management and safety committee with the power to make changes to improve safety.
One of the changes made was modifying machines to reduce noise and adding vibration pads beneath most machines to reduce noise and cut out vibrations.
For those machines that could not be modified directly, sound reducing boxes were built, which were effective in dropping noise levels by up to 60 per cent.
