Sunday 28th April was World Day for Safety and Health at Work to promote health and safety on the job and Workers’ Memorial Day to remember all those we’ve lost to work related injury or illness.
The theme of this year was to encourage a safe and healthy future of work and urge people to plan for the future of their workplace, SafeWork Australia said.
People are encouraged to consider that digital technologies including automation, AI, augmented reality and advances and increasing use of the internet are becoming more common in the workplace, we need to take this into account when planning for the future.
We also need to remember that patterns of employment and structures are shifting with the introduction of task-based work organised through digital platforms.
We need to keep in mind the nation’s aging workforce and the increasing levels of stress and chronic disease. We must remember that our new ways of working need to ensure safe and healthy workplaces in the future.
